Ashleigh House

A property subject to a variety of unsympathetic alterations in a state of much needed reimagination.
brief
The purpose of this activity was to revive this dated property, removing later incongruous additions, rationalising the form and massing, and extending the property to suit modern family living. This dwelling has been neglected for years and as a result of its poor condition, offers the opportunity to make larger-scale alterations to maximise the property’s potential in-line with the scale of the neighbouring dwellings which characterise the road.
result
The proposal looks to strip back the building and consider it holistically, amalgamating all of the desired uses into one considered piece of design. The outcome is hoped to be just that; a revised appearance that is considered as one. The characterising gables, which take influence from the neighbouring building are set back from the long, linear open plan ground floor glazing, adding depth and diversity to the façade. The ground floor overhang controls solar gain from the south, and the continuation of materials from outside to in ensures a strong, rich palette of materials which adds depth and texture.
