brief

The brief in terms of design ambition was somewhat vague, which allowed us the freedom to suggest what we though was appropriate in the setting. The home had to utilise the existing shared access off the highway, and not overlook the host property. There was, however, an emphasis on utilising outdoor space to maximise the rural views of the rolling hills beyond, hence the large first floor terrace access off the living space.

The result is a modern, light filled home which nod’s back to a local and wider rural typology. The reference back to this traditional style of building helps root the building it its setting, and no doubt helped to build a narrative to ensure planning success.
